SafeWork NSW has released its 2026-27 Regulatory Statement, outlining the regulator’s compliance and enforcement priorities for the upcoming year.
According to the statement, the four key focus areas are falls from height, psychosocial risks, hazardous substances, and mobile plant, vehicles, and fixed machinery. SafeWork NSW stated these areas reflect the hazards most frequently linked to serious injuries and fatalities across the state.
Targeted Hazards
The regulator identified falls from height as a leading cause of workplace death and serious injury in New South Wales, particularly within the construction sector. Psychosocial risks, including workload, bullying, and harassment, were noted as an increasing enforcement focus following recent changes to work health and safety laws.
Hazardous substances and moving plant were also highlighted as persistent contributors to serious incidents across the manufacturing, agriculture, and logistics industries.
Compliance Activity
SafeWork NSW advised that businesses operating in the identified priority areas can expect increased proactive compliance activity, including site visits and targeted campaigns, through to mid-2027.
