Understanding Working at Heights
This module addresses the significant risks associated with working at heights, which remains one of the leading causes of workplace fatalities and injuries in Australia. It covers common fall scenarios, outlines who is responsible for managing these risks, and explains how to eliminate or minimise fall hazards through safe design, fall prevention systems, and compliance with WHS regulations.
By the end of the module, learners will be able to identify:
- Working at heights risks
- Prestart planning
- Controls
Relevant Australian Legislation:
- Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Cth)
- Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 (Cth) – Specifically Part 4.4: Falls
- Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risk of Falls at Workplaces (Safe Work Australia) – Provides detailed guidance on risk control for working at heights.
