Understanding Safe Forklift Operation

This module provides comprehensive training on the safe operation of forklifts. It covers forklift components, operator licensing requirements, prestart inspections, and safe practices for lifting, travelling, and placing loads. The module also addresses pedestrian safety, load restraint, and planning work areas to prevent incidents. Special attention is given to slope navigation, turning, and parking procedures, ensuring operators work safely and comply with site procedures and legislation.

• Key guidelines for safe operation

Relevant Australian Legislation:

• Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Cth) – Requires PCBUs to ensure safe plant operation and training of workers.
• WHS Regulations 2011 (Cth) – Part 4.1 Plant and structures; Part 6.3 Licensing of high-risk work (forklift operation).
• National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work – Governs the LF forklift licence.
• Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) – Under Chain of Responsibility, includes obligations for load restraint when forklifts are used to load vehicles.
• Model Code of Practice: Managing Risks of Plant in the Workplace
