Understanding Modern Slavery Awareness

This module introduces the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) and its requirements for organisations with annual consolidated revenue of $100 million or more. It explains what constitutes modern slavery (e.g. forced labour, human trafficking, servitude), how it can appear in both local and global supply chains, and what steps organisations and employees can take to identify, report, and prevent it. The module also outlines the content and importance of Modern Slavery Statements.

By the end of this module, you will be able to understand:

• The purpose of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 and its impact on businesses
• What modern slavery is and the different forms it takes,
• The global and local significance of modern slavery and why it matters
• Real-world examples of modern slavery in different industries
• Consequences of non-compliance with the Modern Slavery Act
• Who is required to report under the Act and why voluntary reporting is encouraged
• The criteria for a modern slavery statement
• The role of employees in identifying and reporting modern slavery risks
• Where to find resources and support for further learning
