Understanding Workplace Discrimination, Harassment and Bullying
This module helps learners understand and identify workplace discrimination, harassment, and bullying. It explains direct and indirect discrimination, unconscious bias, sexual harassment, and workplace bullying. It also covers employee responsibilities, how to respond to incidents, and the legal consequences of inappropriate behaviour.
By the end of the module, learners will be able to:
- Define the meaning of Discrimination, Harassment and Bullying.
- Identify different types of Discrimination, Harassment and Bullying.
- Understand inappropriate workplace behaviours.
- Understand the impact of Discrimination, Harassment and Bullying.
- Understand how to approach an incident in the workplace.
- Understand the legal consequences for those who Discriminate, Harass or Bully others in the workplace.
Relevant Australian Legislation:
- Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) – Covers workplace rights, protections from discrimination and sexual harassment.
- Work Health and Safety Acts (varies by state) – Requires employers to ensure the health and safety of workers, including psychological health.
- Anti-Discrimination Acts (state and federal, such as the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth) and Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth)) – Prohibit discrimination and harassment.
- Equal Opportunity Acts – Applicable by state, further reinforcing protections.
